Drug Name Zyprexa (olanzapine)
Drug UsesTo Zyprexa for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression), it is also used to treat the symptoms of a mental condition.
How to use Your health care provider any questions you, ask how to use Zyprexa.
- Zyprexa by mouth with food or without it.
- Take Zyprexa continue, even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. Use Zyprexa as directed by your doctor.
- Drinking extra fluids if you are taking Zyprexa is recommended. Check with your doctor for instructions.
Drug Class and MechanismAntipsychotic drug Zyprexa is. It works by changing the chemicals in the brain works.
Missed DoseIf it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume regular dosing schedule. If you miss a dose of Zyprexa, take it as soon as possible. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Warnings/PrecautionsTalk to your healthcare provider if you are taking other medicines, especially any of the following:
- Alpha (eg, doxazosin) blockers, diazepam, or medicine for high blood pressure because of the risk of low blood pressure and fainting may be increased
- (Eg, scopolamine), anticholinergic medications, fluvoxamine, or lorazepam because they "may increase the risk of side effects of Zyprexa
- Carbamazepine, HIV protease (eg ritonavir), omeprazole, or rifampin because they may be less "effectiveness of Zyprexa Inhibitors
- Dopamine receptors (eg, pramipexole) agonists or levodopa because their effectiveness may be reduced by Zyprexa
Some medical conditions may interact with Zyprexa. Contact your doctor or health care provider immediately if any of these apply to you. Do not use Zyprexa if:
- You are allergic to a component of Zyprexa. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding
- If you have any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal or dietary supplement you are taking
- If you have medicine, food, or are allergic to other substances
- If you have a history of seizures, heart problems (eg, heart failure, fast, slow or irregular heartbeat), abnormal (ECG) electrocardiogram, heart attack, stroke, blood vessel problems, high blood cholesterol levels, or high or low blood pressure
- If you have liver problems, stomach or intestinal problems, history (eg no movement), enlarged prostate, narrow-angle glaucoma, neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), aspiration pneumonia, or suicidal thoughts or attempts
- If you have Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or trouble swallowing
- If you have diabetes or are overweight, or if a family member has had diabetes
- If you have high blood prolactin levels or certain types of cancer (eg breast, pancreas, pituitary gland) had a history, or if you are at risk for breast cancer
- If you are dehydrated, the alcohol or smoke, or if exposed to high temperatures
Some medications interact with Zyprexa in May.
